Christmas Luncheon

A very good time was had by all at this year's Christmas Luncheon at the 19th in Sawgrass, TPC in Ponte Vedra. Needless to say that their festive decorations contributed to our cheerful mood in these splendid surroundings. Little hiccups with the menu were quickly forgotten over the bonhomie at all the three tables, our three new ladies from Brazil, UK and an American France-veteran, as well as the highly anticipated guest appearance of little Ethan with his mother and grandmother. Since I failed to line you all up in front of the beautiful fireplace en groupe for a big photo, I have to rely on your shots which I'll assemble here.
You wanted something special for the occasion and I think we got it.
Happy 2011 to you and yours! Come back and see us on 5 Jan at a new venue. I'd like to move you around a bit for the next few months.

Christmas Luncheon

We found a great venue for our Xmas luncheon. Several of you asked me to go somewhere different and nice, so this is special:
We're going to the TPC Clubhouse at Sawgrass to "Nineteen" on 8 December, as usual for 11.30 AM.
Here is the address: TPC Sawgrass
110 Championship Way
Ponte Vedra Beach, FL
(904) 273-3235
When you come off JTB, turn right into PV onto A1A. Follow for a couple of miles until you see the Sawgrass entrance on the right.
Or go to their website for Driving Directions etc. http://www.tpc.com/TPCSawgrassContactAndDirections.aspx. Theirs should be better than mine.
The place is marvelous and the atmosphere at Christmas should be really festive.
You will appreciate that in this instance I really need your reply if you can make it.
So please let me know by Monday, 6.
Looking forward to seeing you all there on St. Nikolas day, the Dutch friends' Christmas.
Happy Thanksgiving in the meantime, Sigrun Buckley

Pictorial Greetings from Denmark

Yesterday's meeting had about a dozen lunchers. Many are still on holidays, one car broke down on the way from D.C., one was prevented from coming by one of those handymen who never turn up.
These pictures came curtsy of Marian from her recent trip. This is a statue of Physicist Niels Bohr (7 October 1885 – 18 November 1962) who was a Danish physicist who made fundamental contributions to understanding atomic structure and quantum mechanics, for which he received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1922.
I had to look it up on Wikipedia. That's how far my knowledge in physics goes.
Makes you want to travel....Gimme more pics, please everybody!

Greetings from Bavarian Mountains

Currently in Bavaria. Here are some pictures taken by my daughter to give you an impression what that looks like. If you have some nice ones from your country, you can post them here for us all to see.

We're growing....

Hello all!
We had a great turn out at yesterday's lunch at the Ramada: about 25 people, including one man and a baby.
Of course, babies are not new to this group but Hsinyi and lovely baby Anthony were. Also Diana from England.
We also had several guests who, hopefully, can make it again some time.
I think I speak on behalf of everybody that a good time was had by all.
As I will be in the Fatherland next month, Alicia was kind enough to be pressed into service to send the invitations out for
our next lunch which will be already on the first of September.
Please RSVP her! Yesterday we had about 5 people more than expected which makes it hard on the restaurant.
Hope to see you all safe and sound in October when the summer heat and risk of hurricanes is over.
Best wishes, Sigrun Buckley

New Flags

Hello everybody,
just got the new flags in for our latest members: Australia, Japan, China, Belgium, The Netherlands, Hungary and Croatia. Now there are 3 stands with 16 different flags. Wondering whether to remove Switzerland....? She moved to Hawaii.
I had to order new business cards. Believe it or not: 250 were almost gone. For some reason, I got 500 instead of 250 which are always for free (by mistake?) You'll have a lot of handing out to do! As you can see, I slightly changed the name on the new card. It looked like a mouthful and very long on the card.
Our next meeting will be only in 2 weeks time, April 7th. As usual, I'll be sending out invitations a week before. Cheers!

Who we are

We are a bunch of about 20 Expat women in Jax who meet on the 1st Wednesday a month for lunch to chat, exchange views, and meet other women of other countries in a similar situation. Some of us are married to Americans, some of us have been here for a long time; others came here with their spouses, sometimes only for a few years. We enjoy making new friends from different cultures while we are away from our own country. Over the three years that this club has been in existence, we have grown by word of mouth. Now we have business cards with the club's details to invite other women-- usually when we hear different accents.
We have our little flags on the table to give our luncheons that extra bit of flair-- and as a landmark to spot us in the restaurant. We currently meet in Gigi's, the restaurant of the Ramada Inn. See directions>>>
We usually start at 11.30 Am and stay until they kick us out at 2PM.
Our league of nations consists of Brits, Germans, Spanish, Australian, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Canadian, Belgian, Dutch, etc... Our Swiss friend moved to Hawaii and started her own club there.
So if you want to make new interesting friends, women of the world, do pay us a visit and join us for our next meeting on April 7, 2010. Same time--same place. Do come along and check it out!
I'd like to know in advance who is coming and send invitations out the week before in order to book the table for us. Drop me a line if you plan on coming so that I can count you in and have a place reserved for you.
There are no other obligations, no dues etc. There may be other social activities once we've grown big enough and the request for that comes up.
See you there!
Sigrun Buckley
